Heirloom French Variety
Carrot ‘Jaune du Doubs’ is a beautiful old French gourmet variety that produces cylindrical roots 20 to 25cm (8 to 10in) in length with a rounded tip, a smooth surface and thick foliage. Suitable for fresh consumption, it is recognised throughout France as having a good sweet flavour. Organic Seeds. 
Apio, Quin Cai or Stalk Celery
Celery ‘Tango’ is an excellent quality, self-blanching celery that produces beautiful apple-green stems with good flavour and texture for that all-important celery crunch. ‘Tango’ is suitable for cultivating throughout the growing season, it has good resistance to bolting, and stands well during hot weather. Cutting or Soup Celery. Chinese Kintsai
Cutting celery or Leaf celery is the type that is used in Europe. It looks similar to parsley but tastes like regular stalk celery, but with a slightly stronger, herbier taste. It is a darker green, with thin, rounded, flexible stalks and curly, aromatic leaves; it is much easier to grow than its big brother.
Pop corn or Popping corn
The whole process of growing Popcorn is much the same as growing Sweet corn. Sown in May to June, when the soil has warmed to harvest in August to September. Popcorn ‘Cinema’ has a high starch content and so its glassy kernels pop very well when heated. Perfect for any party or home movie night. Organic Seed.

Courgette ‘Gold Rush’ is an extremely beautiful variety with smooth, thin yellow skins and crisp flesh. It is an early, rich cropping courgette with tender flesh and an abundance of bright yellow fruits. The compact plants yield prolifically and are ideal for smaller gardens or pots.
Common or Pepper Cress
Cress is one salad ingredient you can be sure of harvesting all year round, adding flavour to salads, sandwiches and omelettes. You only need water, a little warmth and light, and this stuff will grow pretty much anywhere. You don’t even need a garden. Organic Seed.

Chinese leek, Oriental garlic chives, Ku chai, Koo chye or Gau choy
A relatively new vegetable in the English-speaking world but well-known in Asian cuisine, the flavour of garlic chives is more like garlic than chives, though much milder. Both leaves and the stalks of the flowers are used a stir fry ingredient. The flowers may also be used as a spice.
Russian or Siberian Kale, Ragged Jack
Heritage variety (Pre 1885, reintroduced 1977)
One of the tenderest kales available, with a sweeter taste than most traditional varieties, ‘Red Russian’ is delicious raw in salads and excellent used in stir-frying. It will grow to baby leaf in only 25 days, just add to lettuce to make your own mesclun mix. Organic Seeds. 
Curly Kale, Scotch Kale, Borecole
Some years ago, we knew kale as a hearty winter meal, suddenly its popularity soared and ‘Kale Madness’ erupted. Now available in all manner of shapes, sizes and colours. ‘Scarlet Curled’ Kale is a highly attractive and ultra-hardy variety, the leaves intensify in colour turning to violet-red after a few frosts.

One of the least problematic and hardiest plants in the Brassica tribe, Kale ‘Westland Winter’ is a medium early variety that typically grows 40 to 60cm tall, which makes it ideal for more exposed production areas. Organic Seeds.

‘Perpetual Spinach is one of the easiest and most productive vegetables for a small space. Extremely resistant to bolting, it responds particularly well to repeat cutting. With just one sowing you can feast on the succulent leaves the entire summer and through to winter. 
Oakleaf Lettuce
Lettuce Cocarde is a beautiful oak leaf type lettuce. Very adaptable, it can be grown in most climates and seasons and can be picked as required. The smooth deeply lobed, red leaves have a sweet taste and delicate melt-in-your-mouth texture. RHS AGM 
Red Romaine, Cos, Semi-Cos
Crisp and light, and very pretty in the salad bowl. ‘Little Leprechaun’ is a compact variety of Cos lettuce that has a very nice appearance and is very easy to grow. The high standing green leaves are tinged with red, almost bronze. Organic Seed. 
Butterhead Lettuce. Summer Lettuce variety
As its name suggests, this classic butterhead lettuce can be the basis of fresh daily salads throughout the year. This is no ‘supermarket’ variety, but rather a proper lettuce with an exquisite flavour unavailable from anywhere but from your own vegetable patch.

Mizuna ‘Purple Stem’ also known as ‘Beni Houshi’, is a striking Japanese variety that retains the classic deeply serrated leaves and mild mustard flavour of green mizuna, but with a touch more sweetness and less bite. Organic Seed.

Mustard ‘Golden Frills’ has attractive and sweet leaves that are fringed and finely serrated with the tangy flavour of gourmet mustard. Use it with other salad leaves to create your own bistro salad to suit your tastes. They are fantastic when lightly steamed, stir-fried or sautéed. Organic Seeds 
Oriental or Leaf Mustard

Onion ‘Rijnsburger’ is an excellent Dutch variety with uniform sized, large globe-shaped bulbs with thin necks. They have a beautiful firm straw coloured skin, pure white flesh and a good flavour. Japanese Bunching Onion, Naga Negi
Bunching onion ‘Ishikura’ is a outstanding variety of that does not bulb but forms long white stalks. It is a perennial variety that is cold hardy, very adaptable to various climates and resistant to pink root and botrytis leaf blight. It is suitable for later crops and for overwintering.
Mountain Spinach
Orach is a heat and cold tolerant green for all seasons, supplying large quantities of mild heart-shaped leaves with a pleasant flavour and texture. It grows quickly early in the year and has a nice citrus touch, great for salads and are a great alternative to spinach. Organic Seed.

‘Blauwschokker’ produces an abundance of red and violet flowers, followed by gorgeous deep purple pods. Dual purpose, delicious when harvested young as mangetout or can be left to mature to shell the bright green peas. Organic Seeds.

Pea ‘Buddy’ is a popular variety producing excellent yields that mature early in the season. A neat and compact variety that can be grown with minimal supports, the pods are borne in profusion with each straight pod containing 6 to 8 tasty peas. Organic Seeds.

Mangetout Pea ‘Snowflake’ is a medium-strong growing early variety that produces pure white flowers and beautiful wide pods. They can be eaten as a mangetout while the pods are flat, or they can be left to mature and shelled for use as a garden type pea. Organic Seeds.

Jalapeño ‘Ruben’ is a reliable, mid-heat chili variety. An interesting variant of the classic Jalapeno with slightly longer, thick-fleshed tapered fruits that ripen from dark green to red. Pimientos de Padrón are amazingly tasty, tiny fresh peppers. The Spanish delicacy often served in Tapas bars, chances are if you have been to Spain you have gobbled up small plates of these in one sitting. Padrón peppers can be harvested as early as mid-May when small and sweet. Organic Seed.

This highly esteemed ancient crop can be used raw in salads, sautéed as a side dish or cooked like spinach. Summer Purslane has a crispy texture you would expect from a succulent and an interesting nutty, peppery flavour. It is salty on the tongue.

French Breakfast 3 is an excellent all-purpose variety for successional sowing from late spring, for harvest in early summer, right the way through to autumn. A favourite among French market gardeners, who considered it both attractive and tasty. They are ready to eat in just 20 or 30 days. Organic Seeds.

Radish ‘Zurich Market’ is a white elongated radish for early summer through to early autumn for bunching or for individual use. Sow from April to August it can be harvested from May to October. If sown under cover, this can be done from early March to April. Organic Seed.

Radish ‘Ostergruss Rosa’ is a traditional German heirloom, grown almost year-round. Sweet and mild with a satisfying crunch, it is well-suited to open-field or greenhouse production through winter. Easy to bundle, it also stores well.
Mooli, Asiatic or Oriental Radish
A popular Japanese daikon type, winter radish, requiring shortening day length and cool temperatures to form. Sow after mid-summer and harvest during cooler weather until the first mild frosts. They store beautifully and excel in stir-fries and roasts, the flesh is tender, buttery, and mild. Organic Seeds.

Red Veined Sorrel is valued for its bright lime-green leaves with dark red veins. One of the earliest green crops and embarrassingly easy to grow, it needs no attention other than when you want to eat it. Organic Seed.
Baby Leaf Spinach
