The Essential Onion Collection is a collection of ten members of the Allium Family.

Few vegetables have more uses in the kitchen or are in such constant demand than onions. Together will other members of the Allium family, they add essential flavours to many recipes. In one form or another their flavour blends into almost everything in a meal except the dessert. Nowadays we can obtain onions fresh from the garden or out of store almost all year round from just a couple of carefully-timed sowings.

The Onion Collection contains ten packets of seeds that includes spring onions, bunching onions, leeks as well as over wintering onions. They will keep you in stock almost all year round.
Each of the varieties are supplied with an A5 information sheet containing colour pictures, information about the plant, sowing guidelines and cultivation advice.

Onion 'Ailsa Craig'
With outstanding quality and excellent keeping qualities, Ailsa Craig Prizewinner is much loved by both home gardeners and exhibitors producing weighty onions perfect for the kitchen or show bench. A heritage variety and great all-rounder, Ailsa Craig still takes some beating.

Onion 'Bedfordshire Champion'
A very popular and reliable variety for well over 100 years. 'Bedfordshire Champion' is ideally suited to our climate producing large globe shaped, golden brown skinned bulbs with crisp white flesh. Late summer maturity. Well grown bulbs have excellent storing capabilities.

Overwintering Onion 'Senshyu Yellow Globe'
For harvesting before the traditional spring sown bulbing varieties are ready. ‘Senshyu Yellow Globe’ was one of the first Japanese overwintering varieties to be tried and tested. Today it remains a growers favourite for surviving the winter well.

Red Onion 'Red Baron'
Red Baron is a well known and very popular mid to late maturing variety. It is extensively grown for its for its attractive 'blood red' colour. Easy to grow and an excellent cropper, it produces beautiful globe shaped, firm well flavoured bulbs.

Italian Red Onion 'Long de Florence Simane'
A splendid carmine-red onion 'Long de Florence Simane' is an old continental variety that is very popular in Europe. Elongated in shape, the bulbs resemble a torpedo or spindle. Its flesh is mild flavoured and tender with light rose coloured rings.

Welsh Onion 'Green Stem'
The Welsh Onion is a non-bulbing, leaf onion that produces clumps of tube-like hollow leaves with large creamy white globe shaped flowers in early summer of the second season. It is a very popular cultivated vegetable and an important ingredient in Asian cuisine.

Spring Onion 'White Lisbon'
White Lisbon is an old favorite and ever popular spring onion. It is a hardy and reliable variety which features long white stems with bright green tops. It is quick and easy to grow, cropping in 60 days. Although, traditionally the most popular Spring Onion for successional sowings from March to September, it can also be sown in autumn and over wintered for early spring harvests.

Bunching Japanese Onion 'Ishikura'
Ishikura is vigorous and quick to mature, sown March to July, it can be harvested from May right through to October. Because it has such a long harvesting period, there is rarely any waste and unlike normal types there is not the need to be sowing every three weeks for a continuous crop.

Leek ‘Musselburgh’
Leek ‘Musselburgh’ is extremely hardy and one of the most useful types of leek, being one that can be picked over winter from Dec to April when there is little else in the vegetable garden…a very hardy leek.
With medium-dark green tops and large, tender, white stalks which have a mild flavour; it is a very dependable performer that has been around for many years.

Leek 'Winter Giant 3'
Leek 'Winter Giant 3' is a high performing variety with thick medium length shafts with dark green erect foliage. Very good winter hardiness they can be harvested from the end of October right through to the middle of March
