The Haws Deluxe - 5 Litre

There are some things you just have to own. Zeiss binoculars. Felco secateurs. A Leatherman. An Aston Martin….ok then, not an Aston Martin; let's keep it real. But the principle's the same.
Haws might only be a watering can, but they are beautiful; every stylish line and curve of them. They perform so perfectly that many gardeners – including Anna Pavord – won't use anything else. In fact, Anna chose it for Gardens Illustrated as her perfect garden tool (Issue 31). Once you have owned a Haws, any other just pale in comparison.

The Haws 5 Litre Deluxe is perfectly designed … it is the Anglepoise lamp of watering cans. With a tall neck that prevents spillage whilst the can is tipped during spraying, the back handle and cross stem provide two gripping points for balanced pouring. It is supplied with an extension spout, a down spout and an oval, all brass watering rose.

The Deluxe is a premium quality, outdoor watering can. Manufactured from injection molded plastic for superior durability and heavier usage. Large enough for use outdoors and in the conservatory, while the removable brass rose is gentle on seedlings.
It features a curved extension spout for easy long reach watering which can be shortened for bench watering. The machined brass rose is engineered to such a degree that perfect roundlets are formed as the water cascades.

Specifications:

  • Capacity: 5 Litres
  • Colour: Dark Green
  • Weight when full: 5.1 Kg
  • Expected Life: 10 years.
  • Supplied with: Oval all brass rose, extension spout & down spout.

How to achieve a good spray from your watering can rose.
It's all to do with keeping up the pressure - especially when using an oval-shaped rose with the perforated brass plate facing upwards.
Used correctly in this manner the oval rose will give a gentle spray, which is perfect for seedlings. As you begin to spray, gradually increase the angle of the can to the surface being watered so that sufficient water pressure is maintained to force water out of the fine holes in the brass spray plate.
If there is not enough pressure, water begins to run across the brass face instead of being sprayed out from it. Gradually this results in water streaming off the end of the rose, giving the impression that the rose is leaking.
Good watering cans - like Haws - are provided with a tall neck to prevent water spilling out when the can is held at a steep angle. A good tip when watering precious seedlings is to 'get a good spray going' before moving in to spray the seedlings - and to withdraw from spraying as soon as the spray starts to fail, which will happen as the can begins to empty. Top up the can and restart.
For heavier spraying over a more limited area, the oval rose may be removed completely or fitted to the can with the perforated brass face pointing towards the ground.
