The Cosmic Carrot Collection is a collection of four wonderfully coloured carrot varieties.
Carrots once came in a wide variety of colours, but changed over time to orange thanks to the influence of patriotic Dutch growers who, in the sixteenth century bred the carrot orange to honour their national colours. Modern agribusiness narrowed our choices even further.
These colourful carrots aren’t just appealing to the Martha Stewart types, their real appeal is to growers in search of their juicy sweet flavour and characteristic crunch. The Cosmic Carrot collection is a great way to help restore the wide variety of carrot colours that were present before the 16th Century.
Each of the seed packs are supplied separately and come complete with an A5 information sheets containing colour pictures, information about the plant, sowing guidelines and cultivation advice.
Cosmic Purple Carrot
Launched in 2005, Cosmic Purple reportedly causes a great stir at grower's and farmers markets. With compelling health benefits and a thumbs-up from taste testers, it has quickly established itself.
Atomic Red Carrot
Atomic Red is a lovely new variety helping restore the wide variety of carrot colours that were present before the 16th Century. This distinctively beautiful scarlet-coral coloured carrot produces long tapered roots. Suitable for maincrop use it thrives in cooler weather.
Chantenay 2 Red Cored
Chantenay is deservedly well known, a popular small variety of carrot with orange-red flesh and a fine crisp texture. A premium all purpose, intermediate, stump-rooted variety, with broad shoulders and a blunt tip. With a good, sweet flavour, they taste as carrots used to taste.
While its sunny colour makes the Solar Yellow carrot unique, these colourful carrots aren’t just appealing to the Martha Stewart types, their real appeal is to growers in search of its juicy sweet flavour and characteristic crunch.
